Massage Techniques

Of the various types of Massage Therapy, the general intention of most of the techniques is to increase circulation, rid the body of toxins, and enhance the wellness of each client, based on their specific needs.
Studies show that Therapeutic Massage also increases awareness of body-mind connections, which helps foster a feeling of calm and general well-being, and a greater sense of being in control of stressful situations. Massage has also been proven to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, increase circulation, relax muscles, improve flexibility, increases energy levels and lessens or relieves symptoms for:
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Back Pain
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Jaw Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Carpal Tunnel
If you suffer from any of these conditions, we encourage you to seek the advice of your physician or chiropractor for a coordinated treatment plan with your massage therapist.

Swedish

The main goal of Swedish Massage is relaxation. Through a routine of smooth, gliding strokes, kneading and gently stretching the muscles, blood circulation is enhanced and relaxation is achieved. From head to toe, every one of the body’s systems is affected by a Swedish Massage. This general technique is what most people expect when going for a common relaxation massage.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage is a style of massage that uses slower strokes and deeper finger pressure on contracted areas. Typically the deep, slow strokes follow the muscle line as well as go “across the grain” of constricted muscles and tendons. As the name implies, the focus of this massage is the deeper layers of muscle tissues.

Neuromuscular

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) is a comprehensive program that utilizes soft tissue manipulation (massage) in balance with the body’s central nervous system and musculoskelatal systems. Or very simply stated: this is a therapy that works with the interrelationship between nerves and muscles. Muscles make the movement happen in the body and nerves tell the muscles when to contract (tighten) and when to release (loosen.)
NMT is a very specialized form of therapy and trained therapists are educated in the physiology of the nervous system and its effect on the muscular and skeletal systems, as well as kinesiology and biomechanics. Currently, Oasis Massage and Spa is one of the only massage therapy clinics in Omaha specialized in this cutting edge specialty.
People who suffer from areas of contracted tissue pain, or “knots”, will benefit from Neuromuscular Massage Therapy. By finding neuro “trigger points” or nerve endings, (typically some distance form the given point of pain) the massage therapist uses concentrated finger pressure to break up the “knots” and relieve the pain.

Hot Stone Massage

During the course of a massage, Hot Stones may be used to enhance relaxation. Smooth river stones are heated to a comfortable temperature and then applied to the body in long, deep strokes. The heat that is transferred to the muscles results in increased circulation and deep relaxation for the client.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage focuses on the needs of expectant mothers, and many women greatly benefit from this massage therapy. We advise to wait until the first twelve weeks of her pregnancy have passed before having a massage. But this massage can provide relief from headaches, congestion, fatigue, back pain, muscles spasms and swollen feet. If you have ANY concerns about having a massage while pregnant, we encourage you to seek the advice of your physician.

Sports Massage

A Sports Massage is focused on the muscle groups associated with a particular sport and is tailored to the needs of each individual athlete. The intention is to help an athlete enhance performance or recover from an injury. This therapy will often include many of the previous techniques in order to meet the individual goals of each athlete.

Reflexology

"A natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the body." By stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands, you are increasing circulation and promoting specific bodily and muscular functions.
